Grand Isle, Louisiana

I will able to get down to Louisiana and make some new landscape work. These are from Grand Isle, and yes, there is still oil on the beaches there.

Ruben Israel, street preacher

1994 Canal Street

1996 Canal Street

1995 Canal Street

I started photographing Mardi Gras in 1990, and in 1994 I made a portrait of a man carrying a banner and street preaching. We talked a bit, and I asked if I might make his portrait, he agreed and I sent him a copy. His name is Ruben Israel, from Southern California and he is a self proclaimed Street Preacher. Since 1994 I have made his portrait at Mardi Gras. This month finds me scanning old negative files before the film faded too seriously to allow good scans, and I cam across some of Rubens portraits.

New Beach Landscape work from Florida

While on a trip to Florida to attend the SE SPE conference, Susan, Aimee and I took an afternoon and drive to the gulf coast, Bald Point State Beach/Park. These are some of the images I made there and will be part of my Beach Landscape series.

My first digital photographs

Earliest Digital photograph that I could find, November 10, 2000. For any of your future curators out there, this was the start of my digital photography. Shot with a Kodak DC4800 3.1 mega pixels. According to the file # it's number 125, so there must have been 124 images previous to this one, but they are now lost to the ages. For that matter, I am pretty sure I do not have my first roll of film saved either.

Midtown, New York City, this photo was actually published in a text book about digital photography.

New in-camera work

For the past few years I have been working on a series of in camera multiple exposures, done digitally. I am well aware that all this can be done in Photoshop, but there is a serendipity to what happens when this is done in camera. I'm being moved along with this project by a possible show this spring of this work. The weather is not cooperating with this new work and I am not sure how much longer I can ask people to model outdoors.

A New Blog!

Like there are not enough photo blogs already. I thought my self portrait blog might be enough, but the self portrait project, now two years old, has a life of its own. I want this new blog to be more about the work I am currently producing and offer my friends a chance to comment on it.
