Carol, Tyson 1999

I've been into the archive this week scanning negatives, its a good way to revisit older works and rediscover some work that you might have overlooked.

St. Roch's Shrine, New Orleans, La. 1990-91 Negative Scans

I decided to pull together a portfolio of work I've been doing at the shrine of cures at St. Roch's cemetery in New Orleans. The shrine has actually changed a lot over the years and was recently closed for more than a year while it was repaired due to damages by termites. Hopefully it will reopen soon.

Revisiting older works

I've been planning a new portfolio to my work with the Mardi Gras flambeaux in order to propose an exhibition. With that in mind I've been going thru some of the older works.

This work was done in 2003-2004 and hot with my first DSLR, a Nikon D100. For its day it was a pretty advanced camera, but was terrible at ISO 400 or above, lots of noise an of course a pretty small sensor. Still the new version of photoshop 2019 does a much better job at the RAW conversions.

Ft. Getty at night

The combination of ISO 12,800 and no tripod with the new Nikon Z7 gave this image a very painterly quality. Ft. Getty at night in the winter was a pretty dark place.

Winter camp at Matunuck

I've photographed this summer camp/trailer park across from Matunuck beach for years but I've never photographed it in the winter. It's eerily interesting with everything buttoned up for the winter. Looking forward to coming back in the summer again in 2019.

Winter in Narragansett

I don't often get to photograph the R.I. coastline in the winter but this week I was able to spend a few days with really terrific winter light working the coast along Narragansett with my new Z7.
